Owls Hold On For 6-5 Win Against Holy Cross

Worcester, MA --- After taking some time off for some turkey and battling traffic, the Owls were back on the ice Sunday evening as they traveled to Worcester to take on Holy Cross. Westfield played a very fast paced period and got on the board early with a goal by Colin Pierce. However, less than a minute later, Tyler Bao would get the Crusaders on the board to tie the game up at 1-1. CJ Kenny would put the Owls back on top with his first collegiate goal with assists from Dylan Burns and Joe Connors. Less than two minutes later, Steve Evans skated around the offensive zone and saucered a pass to Corey Jenks in the right circle who fired it past RJ Fusco. With 11:45 left in the first period, Tucker Hannon would get his second goal of the season to give the visitors a 4-1 lead. After another quick response by Holy Cross, Steve Evans would make it 5-2 with 7:41 left in the period and would chase Crusaders' netminder Fusco. The final goal of the nine goal period all started by a bunch of nice hits by forward Joey Green who caused a turnover which led to a Schyler Reilly goal to make it 6-3.

Holy Cross would chip away at the lead and would score a goal in the second and third period but Nick Liberto shut the door during the final minutes for this third victory of the season. Westfield will host Holy Cross on Senior Night when the two teams meet again on January 25th at Amelia Park.

The Owls return home on Saturday when they host Roger Williams University at 5:00 pm. Then on Sunday they will travel across the river to take on Springfield College at 4:00 pm. Both games will be updated on twitter.
