Owls Skate Past Springfield 5-2

Springfield, MA -- The Owls club hockey team continued where they left off in the Fall semester as they defeated Springfield College 5-2 for their third straight win. After a scoreless first period, Connor Sweeney would score two goals in 26 seconds to put the Owls up 2-0 early in the second. Kris Houda would get assists on both goals. Captain Schyler Reilly, would increase their lead as Colin Pierce circled in the corner and fed a nice pass to Reilly in the slot. Springfield would cut the lead to 3-2 heading into the final period.

In the third, great forechecking by Colin Pierce would lead to an insurance goal as he stole the puck from the Pride's defenseman by the net and popped the puck top corner for a 4-2 Owls lead. With time counting down, Tyler Reopel would skate the puck through the neutral zone for his first goal of the season to seal the victory for the Owls. Nate Maillet was strong in net as he improves his record to 2-0-0.

Westfield hosts Sacred Heart University on Sunday for their last regular season home game at 3:00 pm. It will be Senior Night as the Owls will recognize twelve seniors before the game. It is an important NECHA battle as both teams are 4-4-0 in the conference and are looking to secure the second spot in the playoff race.
