Senior Night A Success: Owls 6, Crusaders 3

Westfield, MA --- The Westfield State University club hockey team celebrated their last home game of the season by honoring the seniors before hosting the College of the Holy Cross. In the game, all the senior skaters picked up at least a point and senior netminder Ryan DiMare picked up his 6th win of the season as the Owls beat the Crusaders by the score of 6-3. Westfield would score two quick power play goals in the middle of the first period to jump out to a two goal lead. Aniel Russo found Corey Jenks in front of the net to put the Owls on the board at the 10:02 mark of the first period. 49 seconds later, CJ Kenny would score his second goal of the season with the second power play tally of the game. Luke Lauchert would cut the lead in half at 6:58 and Westfield would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, Schyler Reilly would tip a Scotty Walters shot in front and the Owls regained their two goal lead only 4 1/2 minutes into the middle stanza. Holy Cross would turn up the pressure and would score two goals in 19 seconds to close out the period and the teams would go to the locker rooms tied at three goals a piece.

Westfield played a clean third period which led the way for the Owls to score three third period goals. Corey Jenks would get his second goal of the night with a laser of a shot from the left wing side. Senior co-captain, Nick Rose would score two goals, one with the man advantage, in a two minute span and the Owls went on to sweep the season series with Holy Cross.

The team would like to thank the Rose's and the Green's for hosting the team's pizza party after the game. Nick Rose (4 Years) and Joey Green (4 Years) are the definition of what leaders are and they have left a lasting impression on the program. The team would also like to thank Ryan DiMare (2 Years), Steve Evans (1 Year) and Scotty Walters (1 Year) for their contributions to the team. We wish all the seniors the best of luck in the future! Pictures of the event will be posted later in the week.
