Troy, NY - RPI scored two power play goals and added a short-handed goal on Friday night to beat the Owls 7-2 in their season opener. Westfield would get on the board first, when Tim Doherty's wrist shot beat the goaltender high glove side. RPI would bounce back 27 seconds later to tie the game 1-1. Sixteen seconds later, the Engineers would take a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
Westfield would score on their first power play opportunity. Off the face-off, the play would come to Tim Rheault at the point. Rheault's slap shot found it's way through a maze of a players to tie the game, one minute into the second period. Some unfortunate bounces ended in the back of the Owls net as they would go into the third period trailing 4-2. RPI would add three goals in the third.
Westfield will enter a stretch of conference games starting this Saturday as they host Roger Williams University in their home opener. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 pm.
