FRIDAY'S GAME AGAINST SIENA MOVED TO 7:00 PM

Westfield, MA - The game on Friday, November 3rd between the Owls and Siena College has been moved up to 7:00 PM at the Albany County Hockey Facility in Albany, New York. This is the first ever meeting between the two teams. 

Siena College plays in the the Super East league and currently has a record of 3-4-0. The Owls (2-3-0) look to bounce back after losing to Eastern Connecticut and Dartmouth College last weekend. Joe Trebino scored the only goal of the weekend to pick up his first collegiate goal. 

Westfield returns home next weekend to host Norwich University on Saturday. 

Josh Brown & Brian Bassett Named 17-18 Assistant Captains

Westfield, MA - - - The Westfield State Men's Club Hockey team has named seniors Josh Brown and Brian Bassett assistant captains for the 2017-18 season. Both players have played three seasons for the club team and will add veteran leadership to a young Owls team.

Matt Arena Named 2017-18 Captain

Westfield, MA --- The Westfield State Men's club hockey team announced Matt Arena as their captain for the upcoming season last week. This will be Matt's third year with the team scoring eight goals in 26 games played. Assistant captains will be named at a later time. 

Matt Arena Named To All Star Team

Keene, NH -- Junior forward, Matt Arena, has been selected by NECHA to represent the Westfield State Owls in their All Star Game on Sunday, April 2nd in Keene, NH. The event will begin with a skills competition at 1:15 pm followed by the game at approximately 2:15 pm.

Matt Arena scored the opening goal in Sunday's All Star game but the Northeast defeated the Southwest 8-7 in double OT. 

2016-17 Season Wrap Up

Westfield, MA --- The Owls were forced to take a forfeit in their final game of the regular season on February 11th due to poor travel conditions. The game was not able to be made up with it being the last weekend of the regular season. The Westfield State Men's Club Hockey team would like to thank all their friends and families for their support during the 2016-2017 season. An end of the year banquet will be scheduled within the next few weeks to wrap up the season.

The team would also like to thank their 4 graduating Seniors. Best of luck in the future!

Owls Skate Into Second Half Looking For Playoff Spot

Westfield, MA -- The Westfield State Men's club hockey team opens up their Spring semester against crosstown rivals Springfield College on Friday night. The Owls have three conference games left on their schedule and are in a battle with Bridgewater State for the 4th and final playoff spot. The Owls have not made the playoffs since 2013 when they lost to Sacred Heart University in the NECHA Finals. 

Westfield will host Senior Night on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. Connor Sweeney, Pat O'Neil, Kris Houda and Nick Sibilia will all be honored before their game againt the UConn Huskies. 

Saturday's Game at Trinity College Postponed

Westfield, MA --- The game between Westfield State and Trinity College on Saturday, December 3rd has been postponed due to rink availability in Hartford, CT. A make-up date will be announced at a later date. The Owls will return to action on Sunday for a 3 pm game against Sacred Heart University. It will be the last game of the semester before winter break.

Westfield Sink Anchormen 4-1

Pawtucket, RI -- Westfield State's only game of the weekend came on Friday night as they traveled to face Rhode Island College. The Owls would strike first on a power play goal by Captain, Connor Sweeney. Brian Bassett would get another goal before the end of the first period and Westfield would take a 2-0 lead.  Rhode Island College would get a power play goal of their own with under two minutes remaining in the second period. A tip shot from the point would beat Owls netminder Nate Maillet. 

Maillet would make several saves early on in the third period to keep it a one goal game and eventually recorded his fourth win of the season. Nick Sibilia would give Westfield an insurance goal with an empty net goal late in the third. Connor Sweeney would finish the scoring, scoring his second goal of the game, with the goalie back in the net for the Anchormen. 

Westfield will head into the Thanksgiving break in fourth place in the South Division. They return to action on December 3rd and 4th with league games against Trinity College and Sacred Heart University. The Owls would like to wish their friends and families a Happy Thanksgiving. 

Westfield Falls to Cadets, Pioneers

Westfield, MA -- The Owls dropped a pair of tough games this past weekend. On Friday afternoon they fell to Norwich University 5-3 in their fourth annual Veteran's Day game. Brian Bassett, Danny Hamilton and Tim Rheault would score for the Owls.

On Saturday night, the team traveled to Bridgeport, CT to face division rival Sacred Heart University. Westfield would take a 4-3 lead into the third period, but the Pioneers would score three unanswered goals for a 7-4 final. Connor Sweeney, Nick Sibilia, Joe Santaniello and Matt Arena each tallied a goal.

Westfield returns to action Friday, as they travel to Pawtucket, RI to face Rhode Island College before heading off for Thanksgiving break.

Westfield Beats Wildcats 5-2

Westfield, MA -- Westfield State opened up a string of three straight non-conference games on Saturday night when they hosted the University of New Hampshire. Westfield opened the scoring in the first by jumping out to a 3-0 after 20 minutes. Goals were scored by Danny Hamilton, Mike LaManna and Brian Bassett. After what looked like a harmless play, the Owls found themselves short-handed for 5 minutes. The Wildcats would use the major penalty and another minor penalty to cut the lead to 3-2. 

Tommy Burgess would score his first as an Owl with 4:53 remaining in the game to give Westfield a much needed insurance goal. Joe Santaniello would add another goal a minute later to secure the 5-2 victory for the Owls. 

Westfield will host Springfield College tomorrow at the MassMutual Center. You must have a Springfield Thunderbirds ticket to get into the game. Puck drop is at 2 pm.

10/30/2016: Westfield State vs. Eastern Connecticut

Sibilia Tricks Bantams, Owls Win 7-2

Westfield, MA --- On Halloween weekend, Nick Sibilia's hat trick powered the Owls to a 7-2 win over Trinity College on Saturday night. Brian Bassett would redirect a Tyler Shaw pass at 16:39 of the first period to get the scoring started. 19 seconds later, the Owls would score again when Chris Fay banked in a rebound to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Kyle Bina would increase the Owls lead with a wrap around goal with 6:08 remaining in the first period. It was the first collegiate goals for both Fay and Bina. At 2:57, forward Nick Sibilia would skate the puck into the zone and curl towards the middle of the ice where his wrist shot would beat the Trinity goaltender. Trinity would add a power play goal before the end of the period but Westfield would take a 4-1 lead into the second period. 

Halfway through the game, Sibilia would score his second goal of the game on an odd man rush. He was assisted by Matt Arena, who finished the game with two assists. Connor Sweeney would score on a 2 on 1 with 6 seconds left in the period and it was 6-1 after two periods. Trinity College would score on a shot from the point to cut the Owls lead to 4 goals just 3 minutes into the third period. Nate Maillet had another strong game in net, stopping 20 of 22 shots. With 48 seconds remaining in the game, Nick Sibilia would complete the hat trick as he raced behind the net for a wrap around goal. 

Westfield will host defending NECHA champions Eastern Connecticut State University on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 pm. Owls Gain Point in 4-3 Overtime Loss

Fall River, MA -- The Owls finished their season series with Roger Williams on Saturday night by suffering a 4-3 overtime loss. Even though they did not get two points, the Owls have gained points in three straight conference games, good for third place in the American Conference's South Division. Westfield would get on the board in the first period when Joe Santaniello put in a power play goal from the side of the net. Roger Williams would score the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead with 8:26 left in the second period. The Owls had several power play opportunities throughout the game and would get their second power play tally as time expired at 7:19. Trevor Shea's pass would find Matt Arena, while being hooked down, who laid out and tipped the puck into the top corner.  After the Owls got into penalty trouble of their own, Connor Sweeney swooped behind the net and put the puck between the Hawk's goalie and the post to give Westfield a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. 

In the third, Ian Mitchell would tie the game with his second goal of the night and the two teams would head into 4 on 4 sudden death overtime. The Owls had the man advantage midway through the extra session, but a miscue in the neutral zone led to a 2 on 1 break for the Hawks. Ian Mitchell would cash in on a rebound for his third goal of the game as Roger Williams improved to 3-1-0 in the league. 

Westfield will host a pair of conference games next weekend. They play Trinity College Bantams on Saturday at 5 pm and then Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors on Sunday at 3 pm. 

Flibotte Post 34 Save Shutout Vs. RIC

Westfield, MA - The Westfield State Men's Club Hockey team improved their record to 2-2-0 on Saturday night by defeating Rhode Island College 1-0. Captain, Connor Sweeney scored the game's only goal only two and a half minutes into the game. Sweeney skated down the left wing side, waited by the circle, before putting a shot on net that went under Patrick Nokes' stick. That is all the scoring the Owls would need as goaltender Jeremy Flibotte would pick up his first collegiate shutout. 

The Owls dominated play for the first 40 minutes but were unable to get a second goal. They had several scoring opportunities and would end up putting 47 shots on goal. Both teams had several power play chances but would both end the night going 0 for 5 with the man advantage. Things got a little testy at the end of the game but cooler heads would prevail. 

Westfield travels to Fall River, MA next Saturday to face Roger Williams University for their only game of the weekend. The two teams met last weekend, with the Hawks winning by the score of 5-1. 

Westfield Wins 4-3 Over Bridgewater State

Westfield, MA -- The Owls picked up their first two conference points of the season with a 4-3 win over Bridgewater State late Thursday night. Tim Doherty would get the Owls on the board early in the first as his shot towards the net bounced through Bears netminder Trudeau. Bridgwater would battle back to tie the game after a turn over in the defensive zone. Nick Sibilia would break that tie with 4:55 left in the first, after his wicked wrist shot from the blue line found the back of the net. 

The teams would trade goals in the second period. Joe Santaniello gave the Owls a two-goal lead with his power play tally. Bridgewater would finally tie the game, one minute into the third period as the two teams played a physical game. Brian Bassett would score the eventual game winner midway through the period. Nate Maillet played outstanding in net, finishing with 33 saves.

Westfield hosts Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at 5 pm. This will be the third of five straight conference games as they make their way through October. 

2016-17 ROSTER

Owls Drop Home Opener 5-1

Westfield, MA - Roger Williams University spoiled the Owls home opener on Saturday night 5-1. This was Westfield's first of five straight conference games in October. The two teams played an evenly matched first period but the Hawks would take a 1-0 lead into the second period. In the second, a brief lapse by the Owls led to two short-handed goals as Roger Williams would take a 3-0 lead into the final period.

Nick Sibilia would give the Owls some hope as he redirected a Josh Brown shot from the point only 1:25 into the third period to make it 3-1. However, the Hawks would add two more to get their first conference win of the season.

Westfield returns to practice on Tuesday night before hosting Bridgewater State on Thursday at 9 pm. The home stand will continue on Saturday, as the Owls will host Rhode Island College.
