Owls Defeat UNH For First Conference Win

West Haven, CT -- In a game where both teams were looking for their first two conference points of the season, Westfield State defeated the Chargers of University of New Haven 5-3. Nick Rose found a streaking Schyler Reilly on the right wing side who beat UNH's JP Withington blocker side to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. New Haven would tie the game up at 15:23 of the second period with a goal from Josh O'Neil. Westfield would regain their one goal lead at 12:40 when Steve Evans would score his fourth goal of the year. New Haven would even the score up at two before heading into the second intermission. Westfield fired 25 shots on goal in the second period and would finish the night unofficially with "64" shots.

Nick Rose would give the Owls an early third period goal only 47 seconds after the break. Joe Green and Schyler Reilly would pick up the assists on the Rose's first goal of the season. With 17 minutes left in the game, the Owls would have a two man advantage looking to increase their lead. However,  Ben Borelli picked up a loose puck on a breakaway and fired a slapper from between the hashmarks to knot the score 3-3. With 2:20 remaining in regulation, captain Joe Green buried the game-winning goal. Freshman Joe Connors, would secure the win with his first goal of the season adding an empty netter on the power play with 15 seconds left in the game for the 5-3 final.
