Westfield Drops Season Opener 5-4

Fall River, MA --- The Westfield State Owls dropped their season opener on Sunday morning by the score of 5-4. The Owls, who are still trying to get to know each other, fell behind 1-0 on an early goal by Roger Williams' Jared Rizo. The team settled down and went into the first intermission only trailing by a goal. Westfield would score three times in the second period but would go into the final period tied 3-3. Steve Evans, Tucker Hannon and Scott Shannon would get the goals for Westfield in the second period.

Steve Evans and Schyler Reilly would break in on a 2 on 1 break early in the third period to give the Owls back their one goal lead. Evans' cross ice pass found Reilly on top of the crease to put the puck in the back of the net. However, penalties would once again hurt Westfield and the game was tied 4-4 midway through the third on a power play goal by Michael Knox. Roger Williams would win their third game in a row in the last three minutes with a goal by Max Wosky. Ryan DiMare finished the afternoon with 23 saves.

The team will return home for their home opener on Saturday, October 12th to play UMass-Lowell at 5:00 pm. The Owls play at Amelia Park Arena in the center of Westfield. This will be the first ever match up between the two clubs. Get game updates by following the team's twitter account @wsuclub.
